ENGLISH MASTERY PROGRAMME
English proficiency plays a significant role in determining a student’s academic abilities.
Interestingly, mastery in English cannot be acquired by reading, practice or memory alone. At Adam Khoo Learning Centre (AKLC), the English Mastery programme is focused on helping students acquire reading and writing strategies. Through this programme, they will get better at understanding and expressing themselves through their writing and speaking. In this programme, 8 essential research-proven reading strategies will be taught for effective comprehension. It will also cover key writing strategies through fun acronyms to hone their skills.
This programme is the brainchild of Dr Cheah Yin Mee, who has over 30 years experience teaching school students and mentoring various English HODs (Head of Department) Dr Cheah is an accomplished author of various textbooks and a distinguished speaker at many English language conferences. Besides providing her expertise to the Ministry of Education (MOE) as a syllabus reviewer, she is also a member in various working committees related to English language teaching. In the English Mastery at AKLC, children:
